The goal of Mr. Stem is to provide training, tools, and fully developed lessons for teachers looking to implement project based learning in the modern mathematics classroom.

Mr Stem is a pedagogy and developing curriculum that puts problem solving at the core of mathematics instruction. Key standards are identified, universally designed challenges or questions are posed, and students collaborate and use technology to solve them.  

 

The challenges are supported by customizable skill building activities. Javascript Programming and Data Analysis with Google Sheets are mainstays of the curriculum. Instructional videos allows students to move at their own pace, pausing and rewinding as needed. 

 

These techniques invite teachers to step into the facilitator role, setting up the problems, guiding student collaboration, and individually accommodating the lesson for each student in need. 

 

Lessons developed using this process have resulted in engaging, enjoyable learning experiences for students, happy teachers, and instructional gains. The completed lessons and ideas for future projects are offered completely for free, with the intention of creating an open source community of math and STEM educators.
